So many children with cleft lip and palate!

In Pakistan, with its large population of 190 million inhabitants, some 10,000 children are born with cleft lip and palate every year! This number illustrates the great need for cleft treatment in Pakistan. Fortunately there are some very experienced cleft surgeons in Pakistan. Through the efforts of our Pakistani partners and the assistance provided by the German Foreign Office we were able to establish a project of cooperation in Karachi, which lets us help more than 800 cleft children every year. The local manager of the project is the experienced surgeon Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Ganatra.

Together with his team he treats affected children mainly in Pakistan's southern province of Sindh, where some 55 million people live on an area larger than the size of England. Among the most important tasks are the ongoing educational work and the training of medical personnel in the local hospitals that Prof. Ganatra and his team regularly visit. The rural population is very poor. Their main income stems from the sale of agricultural produce such as cotton wool, wheat and sugar cane or - along the banks of the Indus river - rice.

Join the effort!

The medical care for children born with a cleft lip and palate in Pakistan is still very insufficient. With your support you will contribute directly to the development of a sustainable treatment infrastructure. It is especially the rural areas that need the establishment of networks so that the children can be professionally treated from the earliest age possible.
